Imagine a World Where Companies Earned Revenue For Improving Society’s Mood
We're building a financial market that incentivizes companies to improve consumers and employee's moods. Greater positive impact, more revenue. We're starting with incentivizing large app makers to improve their consumer's moods.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do you measure mood?
- We built the #1 rated mood tracker on Apple’s App Store. With permission, we captured a candid photo of people’s faces when they manually logged their mood. Using the candid photos, we trained a neural network to predict mood from a face. This enables us detect someone’s mood from a photo of their face, scoring it between -1 and 1.
-
How do you automatically track mood?
- We’ve developed technology that, with your permission, we can periodically access your phone’s front camera, even if you don’t manually open our app. After detecting your face, we send the photo through the machine learning model to detect your mood. Depending on your privacy settings, which we will make accessible and simple, we delete the photo and only send the mood score up to the server.
-
Why should I track my mood?
- Think of our mood tracker as a Fitbit for your well-being, without having to wear a new device. You’ll build more awareness and mindfulness around your mood. Once we have enough data collected, we can show you roughly how each app you use impacts your mood and recommend behaviors and new apps to improve your mood. For tracking your mood, you’ll get a Stigma Token which has a limited supply. More tokens are distributed to people who join and track early. We hope these will have value in the future, though it’s a fun experiment for now.
-
How will you score a company’s (app’s) impact on society’s mood?
- Once we have sufficient data on people’s moods and the apps they use, we can train a recurrent neural network to predict the a person’s mood. With a model built, we could then query it for the impact of a single app, given two otherwise-identical timelines of events. By aggregating the impact that an app has on all individuals, we’d create a score for each app.
-
How much impact could this have?
- Initially, listing companies’ impact on society’s mood may change their behavior to some degree due to public perception – though that won’t be enough for us to see the change we desire. That’s why we’re building the financial system to generate revenue for companies that improve society’s mood. Greater impact, more revenue, more change. It will take years, possibly over a decade, to generate substantial revenue for companies to change their product offerings to improve people’s mood.
It is hard to estimate the impact this will have, because you'd need to estimate how the market values this new class of securities. It'd be like estimating the value of equity market today, before we the first equity was issued. Equity markets value the financial impact and efficiency of companies. We believe the impact a company has on society's mood is worth more than their financial impact. Equities market have over $150 trillion dollars traded annually. Assuming we had that trade volume on Mood Backed Securities, a 0.5% transaction fee would bring $750 billion dollars to the central reserve. That would be distributed to investors and companies that improve society's mood, enough to change company behaviors. If you’d like to learn more contact us to read our Whitepaper.

What are you working on now?
- Operationally, we’re building an advisory board of economists, finance and business leaders who will give us the credibility to influence the market about our plans. On an engineering front, we’re fine-tuning the model to detect people’s mood from a photo of their face. We will then distribute the automatic mood tracker. With the data collected from the tracker, we will build the model to predict the impact that each app has on your mood, depending on when and how much you use it. Does this use a blockchain?
- We see the use of a blockchain as an implementation detail. For us it is a decision between a traditional SQL database or a blockchain. Each come with their pros and cons. We don't need to create a database for the financial market until we have the data collected to predict companies' impact on society's mood. This gives us time to observe the breakthroughs in blockchain technology and choose to adopt one that fits our requirements.
-
How will you bootstrap the financial system?
- We will partner with funds, like mutual funds and hedge funds, to commit capital into the financial market for a defined period of time. If we face difficulty convincing those funds, as many have a dedicated strategy, we will raise our own fund from wealthy individuals and family offices. That fund will be dedicated to playing in our financial market, making day-trades based on changes on a companies mood impact score, and other investment strategies. This will provide liquidity to the early adopters we invite to the market. Eventually we will open this up to all institutional investors, and hopefully, if regulations permit, we will welcome anyone who wants to participate.
